Innova Junior College’s Second Life Educators’ Campus is an online virtual island within the Second Life universe that functions as a platform for international educators to test and share innovative pedagogical practices. It serves to establish a real time interactive platform that focuses on user experience and interface design, as well as provides benefits such as cross-border ease of access and concentration of targeted audience. ts goals are to establish an online presence in a major social networking platform, promoting and nurturing Communities of Practice among educators, as well as to complement our new media network, thereby meeting the needs for more interactive and real time engagement experiences with fellow educators.

Consisting of 7 facilities, the island is fully equipped to host a myriad range of activities: large scale education seminars, intimate sharing between practitioners both local and international, education related fairs and exhibition, technology showcases and workshops by industry partners, even as a virtual sandbox in which to pilot pedagogical experiments.  The Second Life platform offers an always-on, always-accessible online location that is as customizable and adaptable as required. This gives it a reach and flexibility unparalleled by any real-world locations.Heads-up displays will be made available with customized gestures for life-like presentations. Options for multi-lingual translation (English and Chinese) will be provided to better cater to educators from different regions.

Multi-point teleporters would be available at all facilities for easy navigation around the island. Self-designed avatars and 3D sculpting allow visitors to express their creativity instantly, and share their digital expressions with other visitors to the Campus. Designed by educators, for educators, the Second Life Educators’ Campus bypasses the limitations of a physical locality, and aims to become an important nexus for Communities of Practice in the shifting new media landscape.
